My thanks to the congegation for supporting me in the speaking and preaching engagment at Grace Lutheran Church, Columbus, Indiana. It was a 700 mile round trip and Mark's company helped the driver stay awake and the miles go more quickly. Saturday evening (Sept. 20th) there was a potluck meal and then the first presentation - about an hour and a half with questions. On Sunday morning (21st) I preached at both the 8:00 and 10:30 services with an hour's presentation in between. The sermon is posted on this site and copies of the presentation outline are available upon request from the office.
The interest in the weekly opportunity to commune is high at Grace Lutheran and the discussion and questions at the presentations and afterward were very encouraging. This opportunity - the convocation at the seminary in April - and the presentation at the Concordia Deaconess Conference in July were possible only because of your kind encouragement and support.
It took many decades and many threats to pull the Lutheran Church away from the weekly celebration of Holy Commuion. It will take some time and considerable teaching effort to recover the opportunity for weekly communion in a wider way. It happens one congregation at a time. In the last year I have received personal information from several congregations who have recovered this treasure and for whom our book was helpful in doing so.
Please receive my gratitude for your wonderful, caring support to this end.
